I recently spent a night at the Argonaut with my wife on one of our rare nights out away from the kids. I chose the Argonaut for several reasons: it seemed very comfortable, it was different, and the location was extremely convenient to the activities I had planned for the evening – dinner at Greens and a show at Ft. Mason. I had a few misgivings about the nautical theme – I was worried it might be too cheesy – but it turns out my worries were misplaced. Don’t get me wrong – the Argonaut has a definite nautical theme – but it is implemented in a reasonably classy way. When I made the reservations I requested a King Room with a Bay view, but when we arrived they had “upgraded” us to a King Suite without the Bay view. Much larger room, but no view – depending on your preferences this may or may not have been acceptable. We decided to take the upgrade, but I would recommend calling ahead to confirm your room of choice if you want to make sure to get the room you want.
The rooms themselves are very nice: on the large side, many with exposed brick walls or ceiling timbers, with very comfortable beds. They can be a bit noisy – you are in Fisherman’s Wharf, after all. But on the plus side, you are in Fisherman’s Wharf, after all, and within walking distance of all that that entails. I’ll leave it to my wife to describe the eco-friendly practices of the hotel (there are several) and the pillow mints. Suffice it to say that the Argonaut Hotel, while not at all cheap, is a very comfortable and unique hotel worth spending a few nights in.
