The new Whole Foods Los Alto is huge, definitely not the crowded and crammed store I am used to. It took me a while to get the layout straight. With the extensive choices of soup - seafood, meat and vegetarian, I can practically live on soup. Bakery is not as good as the one in Palo Alto, catering too much to special needs, like sugar-free and vegan everything. It takes real effort for me to sift through the baked goods to find desserts with real sugar and wheat and dairy. Have they forgotten that there are people out there that do not have food allergy and just want to seek out yummy desserts? Staff here are in general helpful and nice. But every so often I run into staff, even at customer service desk, who act like they are doing me a huge favor to allow me to shop at the store. So sometime I still go to the Whole Foods in Cupertino even though it is much farther away from me, because the store staff there are super nice

I suspect many of the readers on this site are already Whole Foods converts, if not outright fanatics. I am still far from being a fanatic, but I must reluctantly admit that I am becoming a convert. It used to be that I would only go to Whole Foods because my wife insisted I buy organic free range chicken and grass fed beef, and Whole Foods is the most convenient place to buy it. But for everything else I would go to Safeway or Trader Joe’s. Now I find myself buying produce (when it’s on sale), dairy products, and all sorts of other stuff at the Los Altos Whole Foods. I do try to go at odd hours when the crowds are not so thick. Some don’t like the underground parking, but I don’t mind it a bit. They always seem to have food samples out, which means I can give the kids snacks without having to steal out of the bulk food bins. They have a great (though expensive) produce section, a large array of meats and cheeses, and lots of soy and dairy products (yeah, I know, cheese is a dairy product). About the only thing I still refuse to buy there is cereal – in my opinion most of the organic cereal at Whole Foods tastes like cardboard and costs three times as much as what I can get at Safeway. But for everything else Whole Foods Los Altos is great.
