I miss the old Slanted Door back when it started in the Mission. Even though it was smaller, it had lots more personality and superb service. I find the new location in the Ferry Building over-hyped. Though boasting great architecture, the ultra modern decor doesn't quite do it for me. Feels cold and uninviting. Food is always good, but I don't think it is so great to warrant the impossible to get reservations for weekend dining. All around a bit frustrating that I've stopped trying. Frankly, there are better options. Though if you want to entertain friends from out of town, it is a good place to stop by-- try lunch on a Sat so you can do the Ferry Building, the Farmer's Market and if the line is too long to wait for Slanted Door, they also have a take out section that provides quicker service.

The food here is truly delightful. The combinations interesting and flavorful. Dishes are served family style so it's best to go with a group of at least four to be able to try lots of dishes. Reservations are hard to get, but worth it. The atomosphere is simple and elegant, with floor to ceiling windows and a view of the water.
