Acme bread has always been a favorite in our family. It used to be a bit hard to find even though it's local (in Berkeley) as it is considered artisan bread and a smaller distributor. Now Acme can be found in most places, even though the local or specialty stores still have the most variety. The only 2 places that carry the full line of Acme breads are the original Berkeley location and the store in the Ferry Plaza Building. I love their braided loaf (can't remember the exact name but it looks like a braid and pulls off into separate rolls) - perfect for a simple meal with good cheese or sliced meat or a nice bowl of soup.

Hard crust and the right texture inside. Simple ingredients. I am a self-appointed bread aficionado and am known for eating a GOOD loaf bread at a sitting. Acme bread is that kind of good loaf. I buy an loaf or two every week. There is a good variety of Acme bread, so it never gets old. Now our family of four usually devour a whole loaf at a sitting.
