African Penguin Exhibit and Feeding
Daily at California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco
Watch the African Colony penguins maintain their shelters and dive in the water,
and enjoy feeding shows every day at 11 am and 3:30 pm. During the shows, visitors may watch and ask questions
as one the Academy's aquatic biologists dons a wet suit, takes temperature measurements, and then tosses
vitamin-stuffed herring and capelin to the penguins. Each feeding takes 20 minutes. For more information and

Preschoolers on the Farm Series
November 2nd from 3pm to 5pm at Hidden Villa in Los Altos
For ages 3 - 5 plus parents/caregivers. Bury your hands in sheep wool, throw corn to the chickens, and more!
Be prepared to get dirty! Offered rain or shine. Space limited - register early! The rate for 1 child and 1

Toddler Tuesday: Play with Your Food
Tuesday, November 13th and 27th from 10am to 12pm at Coyote Point Museum
in San Mateo
Come play with your food and create an edible masterpiece or get things cooking with our solar oven.
Learn the importance of compost and the role of "decomposers". Find out what the Coyote Point Museum's
animals eat with live presentations. Share what you are thankful for by adding a leaf to our "Thankful Tree".
Toddler Tuesday is a unique hands-on, environmental education-themed, early childhood program. On the 2nd
and 4th Tuesday of every month (except where noted,) Coyote Point Museum hosts this activity for children
ages 2-5 and their caregivers. Toddler crafts, exploration activities, and live animal presentations are part
of this program. Each month has a different theme. Suggested donation is $5/child. For more information,

Feathered Friends
Saturday and Sunday, November 17th-18th from 10am to 6pm at the Monterey Bay Aquarium
Focus on some different birds this Thanksgiving. Meet Makana, the Laysan albatross, and other feathered friends at
the aquarium. Find out how the aquarium cares for different birds with different habits and needs. Maybe you can
even get an up close and personal look at them. Also, don't miss a special appearance the resident penguins, who
are behind-the-scenes until the Splash Zone reopens with a big splash in March 2008. Program is free with admission.

Reindeer Romp
November 18th through December 31st at San Francisco Zoo
An ongoing holiday event at the Zoo features crafts, entertainment, and an ice skating rink. Oh, and of course ...
reindeer! This is the only opportunity in the Bay Area to see real live reindeer. The adult reindeer, in their red
holiday harnesses and velvet-like antlers, are housed at the holiday-themed Reindeer Romp Village located on the north
side of the Zoo. Visit San Francisco Zoo.
Mid-Autumn Star Gazing
Friday, November 30th from 6pm to 7:30pm at the Arboretum in SF Botanical Gardens
An evening of stargazing at the Botanical Garden. Pegasus the Flying Horse and Andromeda the Princess are taking center
stage from the Summer Triangle. Meet 15 minutes before tour at the Main Gate. Space is limited; advance reservations

This workshop covers backyard composting, worm composting and organic gardening techniques unless

Sudden Oak Death Informational Meeting
Wednesday, November 7th from 7pm to 9pm at Hidden Villa in Los Altos
The presence of the Sudden Oak Death has been confirmed in Los Altos Hills (including Hidden Villa's wilderness
area). Join Hidden Villa and Hills 2000 - Friends of the Hills for an informational meeting about this destructive
fungus attacking trees in the neighborhood. Local experts including Katie Palmieri, Public Information Officer for
the California Oak Mortality Task Force and Cindy Roessler, Resource Managment Specialist with Mid-Pen. Regional

Growing Cut Flowers

Learn the best of the easy-to-grow flowers with staying power and which specific varieties do well in arrangements.
Save money and have more joy in growing your own flower bouquets. Purple orach, colorful amaranths, 10 different
Alstromerias, purple millet, peonies, and long stemmed roses will be discussed. Common plant foliage will compliment
and add wonderful effect. Class will be led by Nancy Garrison, who has 20 years of experience on growing local cut
flowers and whose work has been featured in Sunset Magazine. Cost is $25 per person.

Solar Water Heater Workshop

FREE tour of the San Jose/Santa Clara Water Pollution Control Plant and the wetlands of the Don Edwards
San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge. Learn firsthand how our everyday activities impact the Bay

The Green Festival: San Francisco
