Dear Amazon, what are you doing?

My husband ordered a set of 4 small Pyrex containers (1-cup size) from Amazon. They came in separate packages. This is only the first package.
1. bubble wrap that wrapped the container
2. box that had the bubbled wrapped container
3. plastic protective material
4. box that contains 1, 2, 3 & 4, and 5
5. The 1 cup sized container (yeah, only one)
Looking at the multiple protective layers, you’d think Amazon was shipping me a precious vile of elixir of life.
I can blabber on about how horrible this much unnecessary packaging is for the environment. What struck me most is that this is just plain BAD business. Poor supply chain management and terrible warehousing process. Tearing open four layers of packaging to get to one tiny container? Not exactly glowing customer service either. I would cringe if I owned any stock.

I think Wal-mart had realized this business sense and is making changes in its supplier lines for the bottom line, spun as green PR as I’m not convinced they’re that morally green yet. However, if Amazon wants to stay in competition, it’ll have to realize the same thing soon.
Ech! This kind of thing drives me crazy. In fact, I wrote about a similar situation this week on my blog:

What can we do to make them stop???
Elixir of life…LOL. Very funny.
Excellent post and so very important for more people to blog about this. I heard about one person who bought a doll and took all the unnecessary packaging and left it at the store counter. What a great statement to store’s that we don’t want or need all the wasteful packaging. Let’s keep getting the word out.
